Looking Back At 2014

It feels a little unreal that 2014 has come to an end, it went by so quickly!

What a busy year filled with many ups and downs, but in the end I feel that I have accomplished so much.

Here is a little review of 2014:

Personal Accomplishments:

  • I completed a 21-Day Cleanse in May – felt amazing.
  • My Jewelry Business (Simply Divine Details) grew so much this year! I am so excited for how far I have come as an Artist and Business Owner.
  • Simply Divine Details had a booth at the New York State Fair in August (12 whole days)!
  • I had the honor of writing a post about my art for the Main Street Arts Blog in November – so much fun!

Personal Discoveries:

  • Eating Healthy does not have to be complicated and I feel so much better when I stick to it.
  • Quality trumps “affordable and quickly accessible” – Through being a business owner, I am really developing a taste for handmade/well-made in every part of my life, not just the business side of things. I want to be surrounded by uniqueness that will last rather than the same old manufactured items that are guaranteed to break down and disappoint.
  • Simplicity is beautiful – The more crazy and hectic my life gets, the more simple I want to live. I am so in love with the “more is less” idea now.
  • I think the biggest self discovery for me this year is this: I can’t always be the best at everything, and I can’t take on every task all at the same time. Balance is so important as well as pacing myself. If I fail at something now, it does not mean I will never be able to do it – try again and learn from previous mistakes. I can do anything I put my mind to. Keep practicing Balance and Patience and most importantly, never stop working toward my goals and dreams.

A few things to work towards for 2015:

  • New Jewelry styles for Simply Divine Details + branding
  • Do more art that is just for me –  no business attachments
  • Do another Cleanse
  • My Husband and I will be doing a lot of planning for the future, including where we will be moving in 2016 (!!!!!!!)

This year I met so many wonderful Artists and bought quite a few awesome handmade goodies as well as some good reads! Here’s a few of them:

  2. An assortment of amazing handmade mugs and a lovely handmade garlic keeper – a collection I picked up at a few of the art shows I went to over the summer.

It’s Been Awhile….

My Goodness, it’s been awhile since I last made a post here on the blog!

This year has been so crazy! I was booked with so many events and festivals for Simply Divine Details. So far it has been a successful year for my little business.

I have one more craft festival to go, the 41st Holiday Festival at Cayuga Community College in Auburn NY, December 6th (10am to 5pm) and 7th (11am to 4pm).

Summary of My 21 Day Purification and Some of the Products I Used Along the Way

I am still beaming about going the whole 21 Days without any chocolate….

Anyway, I thought I would do a quick little summary to kinda highlight some of the key points in my cleanse and share some of the products I used.

If you haven’t read any of the other posts about the cleanse and would like to, here’s where to start!

 

It all started on May 19th –  first day was a piece of cake…. no wait, let’s go with a slice of apple instead.

Day 3 was torture! It got  a lot better from day 4 and on.

Some of my favorite things I ate during the cleanse were:

  • portabella mushrooms – sautéed and stuffed (yum)
  • lentil soup
  • strawberry and rhubarb with honey (boiled)
  • asparagus (steamed and sautéed)
  • sweet potatoes (sautéed and baked – so good)
  • chickpea and kale stew
  • greek salad with tuna
  • I really loved all the veggies and fruits I ate to tell you the truth… Wait, I take that back, I am not much of a celery person, and I didn’t really care too much for the jacama, but I will give it another shot…

 

I really really did not like the powder that I had to add to each smoothie, it kind of ruined the wonderful mix of fruits and veggies and made the drink super chunky and did not taste so good.

Taking all those supplements at one time was a bit challenging, but I got used to it after a while.

Like I mentioned yesterday, my nails are stronger, my hair is healthier and my face has cleared up a lot! I also lost a little bit of wait, about 5 lbs – I was not in this to lose weight but instead just to feel better and get rid of some toxic junk in my system, but losing those pounds was a nice little bonus. Plus my favorite pair of jeans fits better now, so Im happy.

My first day off the cleanse (yesterday) I only had a little bit of chocolate, and that was dairy, nut, and soy-free chocolate chips that I melted with coconut oil and drizzled over my homemade protein bars, so I did not have very much.

Surprisingly, I didn’t have an “oh my goodness have I missed you my beloved chocolate” moment, I actually didn’t really care so much for it and kinda wished I had made the protein bars without the drizzled chocolate on top. A-MAZE-ING! I am a self proclaimed choco-holic, and for (I think) the first time in my life, I didn’t really want the chocolate.

 

So over all, I really enjoyed just eating healthy foods, even when it got crazy because I had festivals I was working at, with fried food and fudge calling my name, I was still able to stick to the plan and only eat the good stuff.

 

Along with watching what was going into my body, I took an extra step to be cautious about what I was using on my body as well.

I did not wear any make up, except for mascara (couldn’t quite give that up).

I used natural personal hygiene products/ made a few of my own

and I use essential oils often for multiple different things throughout the cleanse.

Here’s a list of the personal hygiene products I used:

 

  • coconut oil –  I used this for removing my mascara instead of store-bought make-up remover, works like a charm!Photo Jun 09, 5 29 35 PM
  • shea butter body lotion (Everyday Shea by Alaffia –  unfortunately this lotion does have an ingredient in it that is not so great for you, but I could not find another lotion around here that didn’t have that and I didn’t get around to making my own. Oh well, I tried)Photo Jun 09, 5 29 08 PM
  • Indian Healing Clay (calcium bentonite clay) –  this stuff is great, I used it a couple time per week (especially right after yoga) – wonderful for cleaning out pores and tightening your face.Photo Jun 09, 5 31 19 PM
  • I made my own oil cleansing method (OCM) for my face wash and an oil moisturizer using blends of essential oils and carrier oils (recipes from the wonder CrunchyBetty.com)Photo Jun 09, 5 32 41 PM
  • The Seaweed Bath Co. Shampoo and Conditioner – ok, this stuff is a little bit pricey, but I love love love it! So worth the price, it is made of lots of wonderful ingredients and is gluten-free (which makes me happy) – I have the lovely eucalyptus and peppermint scented ones (scented with essential oils, not fragrances ).Photo Jun 09, 5 33 35 PM
  • handmade goats milk soap – I met a wonderful lady at the Ithaca Festival who makes this awesome goats milk soap with all natural and wonderful ingredients, many of which she grows on her farm, and the goats milk is from her goats.   • essential oils –  I diffused them into the air, I put them on cuts, I put them on my face, and whatever else was bothering me, I found an essential oil that could help! So many ways these will bottles filled with magic can be used!Photo Jun 09, 5 36 26 PM

21 Day Purification – Day 21!

I made it through the cleanse!!! Yay!!!

It kinda feels really great!

I am over the moon for getting all the way to day 21 without cheating at all! *Sigh of relief*

If you are just popping in and haven’t been reading along for the last month, you can click here to read about this cleanse I decided to do! It was a fun little journey, though hard at times, but so worth it!

Ok, so here is my entry for the last day of the cleanse:

 

Day 21

What I ate:

Breakfast: smoothie with sp powder, spinach, strawberries, peaches, pineapple, mango, green grapes

Lunch: baked sweet potato with coconut oil (my latest favorite thing to eat)

Dinner: Chicken with garlic, coconut oil, thyme, oregano and sesame seeds (had dinner with mom, we kinda just threw stuff together – it turned out good!)

Snacks: cantaloupe, honeydew, grapes, banana, green beans, 2nd shake: same as this morning.

How I Am Feeling: really, really good. I have also noticed that my nails are stronger, my skin has cleared up and my hair is a bit shinier and healthier feeling lately.

Other Purification Techniques I Am Doing: none today

Exercise: 30 minute cardio

 

I am going to do another post tomorrow about some of the other ways I was detoxing my body during the cleanse (mainly personal hygiene products I used) along with a summary of the 21 days. So I hope you will stop by and read tomorrow’s post!

21 Day Purification – Days 15-20

I finally had some meat on day 15! Honestly though, I love veggies, meat is just kinda whatever to me. But I know I needed the protein.

Day 15

What I ate:

Breakfast: smoothie with sp powder, spinach, strawberries, cucumbers

Lunch: wild rice, the sunflower seed stuffing I had left over from the stuffed mushrooms, cherry tomatoes.

Dinner: Garlic chicken, sautéed mushrooms and sweet potatoes (olive oil and thyme).

Snacks: raspberries, zucchini, nectarines, plums, 2nd shake: water and powder – a little too busy this evening to do another smoothie.

How I Am Feeling: good, recovering from the weekend.

Other Purification Techniques I Am Doing: diffusing peppermint essential oils into the air

Exercise: 30 minute walk

 

Day 16

What I ate:

Breakfast: smoothie with sp powder, spinach, mixed berries

Lunch: left over garlic chicken and sweet potatoes

Dinner:  sautéed asparagus and salad with yellow bell pepper, zucchini and strawberry and rhubarb with honey for dessert.

Snacks:  zucchini, plums, cherry tomatoes,  2nd shake: sp powder with peaches, cherries and plum

How I Am Feeling: good, got a lot accomplished at home yesterday, lots of energy!

Other Purification Techniques I Am Doing: diffusing peppermint essential oils into the air

Exercise: yoga for 1 hour + 30 minute walk

 

Day 17

What I ate:

Breakfast: smoothie with sp powder, peaches, cherries, plum

Lunch: salad, asparagus, cherry tomatoes, sprouts, avocado.

Dinner: Garlic chicken, cucumbers, bell pepper, nectarine

Snacks:  nectarines, strawberry/rhubarb, 2nd shake: same as this morning

How I Am Feeling: good, except allergies and a bit of a head ache. Not as sore from yoga this week though.

Other Purification Techniques I Am Doing: nothing today

Exercise: none, dentist appointment after work, then a bunch of errands. Took the rest of the night off

 

Day 18

What I ate:

Breakfast: smoothie with sp powder,  strawberries, cucumbers, banana, peaches, mango, pineapple

Lunch: salad, sprouts, cherry tomatoes, cucumbers, strawberries

Dinner: quinoa, sautéed sweet potatoes (coconut oil and thyme)

Snacks: bell pepper, cucumber, banana,  2nd shake: same as this morning

How I Am Feeling: good, but I’m kinda ready to be done drinking this powder in my smoothies… but on another note, my favorite jeans fit me better! yay!

Other Purification Techniques I Am Doing: diffusing orange essential oils tonight

Exercise: 30 minute  cardio

 

Day 19

What I ate:

Breakfast: smoothie with sp powder, strawberries, cucumbers, peaches, nectarine, pineapple, mango

Lunch: quinoa and sautéed sweet potatoes

Dinner: greek salad (without feta) and tuna with an olive oil and lemon dressing (ate out with my parents tonight)

Snacks: nectarines, cherry tomatoes, cucumbers, zucchini, 2nd shake: mixed berry juice

How I Am Feeling: good, more energy lately, lost a little weight.

Other Purification Techniques I Am Doing: diffusing essential oils

Exercise: none

 

Day 20

What I ate:

Breakfast: smoothie with sp powder,  strawberries, cucumbers, peaches, nectarine, pineapple, mango

Lunch: baked sweet potato with coconut oil.

Dinner: large salad with sprouts, cucumbers, zucchini, cherry tomatoes, and jacama (which was interesting)

Snacks: green grapes, 2nd shake: water and powder – was a little lazy

How I Am Feeling: really good.

Other Purification Techniques I Am Doing: diffusing stress away essential oils blend

Exercise: 30 minute walk

 

So tomorrow’s post will be about the last day of the cleanse! Yay! I will also post about other ways I was purifying my body that I didn’t talk about during the daily posts, such as essential oils and personal hygiene products I used.

21 Day Purification – Days 12-14

Well, this weekend was interesting. I had the Ithaca Festival, which went well, except a little car accident that happened with my car…. No one was hurt and the car will be ok, after the repairs, thank goodness. So that ended up interrupting my booth time, as I was on the phone for a really long time with insurance and all. Sigh.

But anyway, here are days 12-14 of my cleanse. I still have not had meat yet, it was just too crazy this weekend to try and add in a new food.

Day 12

What I ate:

Breakfast: smoothie with sp powder, spinach, strawberries, peaches, pineapple, mango.

Lunch: spring mix salad, cucumbers, cherry tomatoes, wild rice, avocado.

Dinner: stuffed portabella mushroom with sunflower seeds, lemon juice, olive oil, garlic, basil

Snacks: apples, strawberries, cherry tomatos, carrots. 2nd shake = peaches, strawberries, pineapple, mango, spinach

How I Am Feeling: good, a little crazy with the festival.

Other Purification Techniques I Am Doing: none today

Exercise: none

Day 13

What I ate:

Breakfast: smoothie with sp powder, spinach, cherries, blueberries.

Lunch: spring mix salad, cucumbers, cherry tomatoes.

Dinner: Chickpea and Kale Stew

Snacks: apples, strawberries, cherry tomatos, raspberries, mango, kiwi, 2nd shake: same as this morning.

How I Am Feeling: another day of festivals – car accident – bummer.

Other Purification Techniques I Am Doing: forgot to bring my stress away with me to the festival.

Exercise: none

Day 14

What I ate:

Breakfast: smoothie with sp powder, spinach, strawberries, cucumbers

Lunch: Chickpea and kale stew

Dinner: wild rice with cherry tomatoes

Snacks: apples, strawberries, raspberries, cucumbers, 2nd shake : same as morning.

How I Am Feeling: good but tired, last day of the festival.

Other Purification Techniques I Am Doing: none

Exercise: none

21 Day Purification – Day 11

Today is the first day of the Ithaca Arts Festival! Super excited!

I’ll post more about the festival next week, but for now, here is my entry for day 11 of my cleanse. If you are joining in for the first time and wondering what all these posts about a cleanse are, you can read my first post in the series here to understand what all this is about.

Day 11

What I ate:

Breakfast: smoothie with sp powder, spinach, strawberries, peaches, pineapple, mango (this has been my fave combo with the powder so far)

Lunch: spring mix salad, cucumbers, cherry tomatoes, wild rice.

Dinner: stuffed portabella mushroom with sunflower seeds, lemon juice, olive oil, garlic, basil

Snacks:  apples, strawberries, cherry tomatos, banana, 2nd shake = peaches, strawberries, pineapple, mango, spinach

How I Am Feeling: good  but tired, so busy with getting ready for the upcoming show. Still a little sore from yoga.

Other Purification Techniques I Am Doing: stress away blend essential oil

Exercise: none

Today was the first day that we could add lean meats and fish into the cleanse, but I was so busy getting ready for this weekend that I didn’t have a chance to make the chicken I was planning on making. Oh well.
